Abstract

This study was done to identify the levels and those relational factors of the professional autonomy, professional self-concept, and job-satisfaction perceived by clinical nurses so that it serve a basis to develop a better managerial strategies for nurses.
For the study, the 224 subjects from 2 hospitals located in Seoul were participated from April 7 to 14 in 1997, answering the structured questionnaire composed of three dimensions ; Schutzenhof er¢¥s Professional Autonomy Scale for measuring prof essinal autonomy, Arthur¢¥s PSCNI for measuring self-concept, and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnare for measuring job-satisfaction.
The data was analyzed by Cronbach¢¥s alpha, percentile, mean, standard deviation, ttest, ANOVA, Pearson¢¥s Correlational Coefficient operating SPSS computerized program. The results of the study were as follows
1. The levels of professional autonomy perceived by clinical nurses was mid range(157. 41 points) based on Schutzenhof er¢¥s.
2. The average score of the professional self-concept was 2.66 of mid range. 3. The level of job-satisfaction was mid range with 2.50 point. 4. Three dimensions showed high correlational coefficient.
From the results, the following suggestions are recommended.
1. The following study and developing strategies to expand nurses¢¥ professional autonomy should be needed.
2. To promote the professional self-concept, the special program and counselling should be needed.
3. The further study on the interaction between the professional autonomy and self-concept should be needed.
